Upgrade from 98SE

Daughter wants me to upgrade her PC from 98SE to XP for Christmas, if I remember it's quite low on RAM, 128 or 256Mb. What the minimum XP will run on plus I noticed on eBay that you can buy XP pro and office 2003 for £15, this seems ridicously cheap, though it says it comes with unused product key. What's the catch. Windows XP will go on 128MB but be very slow. 256MB is the realistic minimum and 512MB+ to work really well.

Windows XP Pro, or home, and Office 2003 on eBay that cheap are virtually guaranteed to be pirate copies.

I agree with Mr Mistoffelees on both points.

Mr Mistoffelees & VoG are correct.

PC World are presently doing Office 2003 Student Edition for just under £90. The license that comes with it allows legitimate installation into 3 computers; has been a godsend in this house, with one son doing GCSE this school year, #2 son in Year 9 & Mrs g0slp doing mature student work herself.

We have XP on all our machines; 256Mb on one, 384Mb on the second & 512Mb on the third. I confirm that 128Mb is sloooooowwww, hence one machine now having 384Mb - I added a256Mb stick...

Mark.
