Upgrade 423 cpu to 478, or buy motherboard

  Krisps 23:04 23 Nov 2004

I have an MS-6385 Micro ATX mainboard which supports Intel Pentium 4 processors, using socket 423. My cpu runs at 1.4 ghz.

I have already aded memory up to 512mb, and as the next stage of upgrade am considering a faster cpu. However, 423 has been replaced, so should I buy a 478 ( I understand I can buy an adaptor from 423 to 478), or would I be better off buying a new motherboard and compatable 478 cpu.

Any experiences or ideas on sources of the items I need would be appreciated.

I would suggest a new motherboard because you will then have a further option of upgrading it later on if you should wish.

Novatech, amongst others, have many good motherboard bundles available preassembled and tested which offer good value.
