unzipping zip.001, 002 etc

  ened 07:40 02 Jan 2009

I want to download a sequence of large files which come like this: filename.zip.001, filename.zip.002 etc.

Is there a free utility which will unpack these properly?

Is it straightforward because I have downloaded one of the files, tried to unpack it with 7-zip and it has just created another zip file?

If they will not extract by double clicking on them:

These are most likely not zip files as such but zip files which have been split into more convenient sized parts. Join the parts with something like click here and then unzip the resulting zip file as normal.

Thanks for those replies.

I had that on my machine and found it quite intrusive (probably it could have been sorted with a bit of patience) so I continued with 7-zip, which appears to do the same thing.

I have hjsplit installed. Will this do the same thing?

When you say 'join the parts', should I join them prior to unzipping or after unzipping them into one folder?

I have just downloaded two of these files and notice that hjsplit will 'see' them.

Thanks to you both for your kind help.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday.
