Unwanted wanadoo

  Creditman 17:49 30 Oct 2008

Suddenly when opening Outlook Express a sort of additional task bar appears above the task bar, coloured blue with a Wanadoo serach facility on it. I have never used wanadoo & don't want this -but how do I get rid of it ? Thanks

You've probably accepted a toolbar as a passenger in some other software installation. Some perfectly respectable software like CCleaner comes with addons, but you can usually deselect them when installing.
Try right clicking the IE taskbar, you will get a drop down list of active bars that should include the new arrival. You can untick it to make it disappear, but it'll still be installed. have a look in Add or Remove programs and if the relevant toolbar is listed there run the uninstall.

Thanks, but have checked all recent software but nothing showes up. Active taskbars do not include it either. At r/hand end of wannadoo taskbar there is a link which opens a website - memorisethis.com which has a message that the site is undergoing redevelopment since early 2007 & suggests looking at a sister site - alternative gifts - an online gift shop. Neither of these sites means anything to me, so I am totally baffled !

Looks as if you've picked up the Alexa toolbar somewhere. Try this removal tool click here

Wanadoo is the old name of course for Orange, so maybe Orange may appear in the add & remove. Just a thought....

Thanks again, but still no joy. The link from "Geeks" only leads into a Sun site. I searched for Alexa removal but nothing worked for me (all the sites I checked related to Alexa being on IE7, not Outlook Exprss.) Most of them also said that various malware removal programmes (including Adaware which I have had for years) would get rid of it. Are you sure it's Alexa ? Thanks

OE toolbar parasites are a bit of an oddball, most as you've found target IE. So I think you need some specialist help here, try Malware removal forum click here Then follow their instructions as they analyse your problem in detail and walk you through the removal procedure.

Thanks - looked at your malware removal link but it seems far too complicated to get involved in, so I guess i'll have to live with it.
