Hi i am trying to get rid of an unused icon in the system tray, i have tried the usual route of right clicking on start, properties, taskbar, customise, and selecting to always hide, click ok then apply, it goes away but if i log off or switch off the computer it keeps comming back. it is the icon for Local area connection a network cable is unpluged. keep any answers simple.

I had the same thing with my laptop. I disabled the network card in device manager.

Control panel > network conections. Click on local area connection, pick change settings of this connection in left pane
Untick both notification boxes this will remove icon but still leave network connection enabled if you need it
