Unnecessary system files?

  Diemmess 15:16 22 Feb 2006

Windows 2000 and in the WINNT folder there is an increasing number of files more or less like $NtUninstallKB896424$ (currently just over 100MB)

This is a fresh installation and I like to keep my 'box' as trim as possible.

Though the serial numbers and other details differ they all have a $ at each end.

Are these files a return path to undo syatem update and therefore can be deleted?
I am backed up to date so could try it and see, but hope someone will describe what these files are about?

These are the result of windows updates, as far as I know. You can delete them if you want, but with most modern hard disks, 100mb is very little so I'd leave them there.
