unknow emails being returned

  PvG 15:45 06 Aug 2006

I hve just started receiving a lot of "recipient not recognised" emails returned from addresses I don't know.
Can someone tell me why/how this is happening and how can I trace where my address was taken.
Do I have a virus or something else?
Firewall and antivirus both up-to-date.

You can't trace the address without a lot of trouble.

You almost certainly don't have a virus yourself.

Your address can easily be faked/spoofed - even guessed - by spammers.

Just ignore them and delete them, that's really all you can do - we all get them from time to time, in bursts, and they tend to die out.

It is most likely that your email address was in the address book of someone who has been infected. Many emails will have been sent bearing your address as the sender. They are being bounced by the recipients hence why you are getting them.

Just delete them and after a short time it will stop. There is no point in trying to find out where they originate.
