Hi all, I am trying to burn a DVD which I have done many times before on the same equipment. Win10 using imgburn. Getting a message "The semaphore timeout period has expired" which is not something I have seen before or understand, any help please. Had 3 attempts on 3 new disks all failed.

How big a file are you trying to burn?

I am trying to make a W10 iso.

are you using a 32bit system?

yes and trying to write a 32bit iso for use on another pc but after another go still getting the same message. 4 disks tried now all brand new, it manages to write the finalize on them rendering them useless.

32bit doesn't like writing files bigger than 4G how bigs the iso file?

I don't know for certain but about 4G I would think.

Answer

I'm sure the MS would not provide a file for a 32 bit Windows program that can not be written to a disk. DVD disks usually have a 4.7GB capacity anyway. Try writing at a much slower speed. It might work. Also try another disk burner ie CDBurnerXP which despite its name is Win 10 compatible. If that fails I would guess the DVD Writer has given up all together or is incompatible with the disks you are using.

The writer works OK and the disks are compatible (just tested it with a video clip to be sure) I am using 16x speed Verbatin or Memorex DVD-R disks all new and undamaged. Tried at 4x speed and still the same message appears.

Hi bumpkin i found this article for you

Error 0x80070079: The semaphore timeout period has expired

copy and paste the above line into your browser

Also note once you find a disc type your pc likes stick to that typee AND the same manufacturer.

Thanks alan, done in 5mins on first attempt using CDBurnerXP.
