Unable to create network

  Ptolemy 19:31 30 Dec 2008

Hi all

I am XP user with Virgin Media BB and I have just become the relatively proud owner of a Philips SNB 5600 router. One PC and one laptop can connect to the internet perfectly both through the LAN ports (router has four) and/or via the wireless devices. But I'm absolutely stumped trying to create a network so my girlfriend and I can play Cluedo against each other on a LAN (yes, it's a pretty wild lifestyle I know) or eventually use shared printers etc.

I have now spent many hours trying to create a network; endlessly running wizards with no sign of a network at all. Can anyone give me some simple pointers? I would have thought that creating a network for two computers connected to the same router would have been straightforward.

FYI - router has firewall and computers are both using MS firewall. Is it some firewall settings that's blocking something?

XP on both computers? Networking Vista and XP has its own set of issues...

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm afraid I've gone through the procedure over and over again but still it doesn't work. Any suggestion would be appraciated.
