Unable to close Internet Explorer windows

  Shappy 21:37 02 Oct 2003

When using Internet Explorer I often find that when I click on the last X to close the window, nothing happens. The only way I can close Explorer is by going into Task Manager and ending the task, which is an inconvenience and clearly not how it should be.

Is there a setting somewhere which prevents IE closing if the connection is still open, or something else preventing closure. This never used to happen.

What happens if you use File/Close from the menu bar?

What versions of IE and Windows do you have?

You got a firewall? Anti spiware utilities?

Get Spybot here click here, and a firewall, click here+, may well sort it....

Operating system is XP Home
IE version is 6.0
File Close also has no effect

It could well be spyware, download the above and run them and see if that does the trick....

Still got the problem. Installed Spybot, which removed various things, and also have a firewall.

It's always one of the many windows open at once which fails to close.
