udma mode 5 not recognised by XP

new seagate 40 gig HD installed and dos utility used to set to mode 5. device manager/ primary ide chanel/properties indicates udma mode2 is selected. I am using 40 pin 80 cable connector MoBo supports ata100.

are the motherboard/chipset drivers installed?

try getting updated ones.for example,for ages i could only get pio mode for my cdrw even though dma was set in device manager.an update of the drivers sorted it and i can now set udma mode4.
