turning old internal HD into external backup

  dmm27 23:31 06 Feb 2006

I've seen something about this before, involving getting a case that allows the internal HD from my old PC to be powered by a USB or something. I cant find the gismo tho.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

What sort of software do I need to do this?

Yes just get a External USB2 Caddy it should come with Drivers CD only needed for old OS like 98se etc set the Drive Jumper to Master and connect it if it's a XP computer then right click My Computer choose Manage choose Disc Management setup the drive there no need for DOS utilities

I'm no expert but what you should be looking for is a 'caddy', 3.5" or 2.5" depending on the physical size of your hard drive. I found one on ebay and have set up my old hard disk drive as an external drive connecting via USB2.

As far as I know, you do not require any software to do what you described.
