trouble opening registry editor

  K.E 15:58 10 Sep 2003

I am trying to open registry editor in order to try to deal with a spybot worm i have on the system, however the window only appears for a second or so before closing

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

How are you trying to open the Registry Editor, K.E? O.S. and bit bit more info would also help.

Registry Editor = Start > Run, type regedit.

thanks for your responses.

I am using windows xp and am opening it using the following route

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens only very briefly. I am using windows xp

thanks for any help you can pass on...

I do not use WinXP any longer so I can't be of too much help. One question tho' before I go off ... when was the last time you entered REGEDIT and what did you do?

I entered it about 4 weeks ago to delete the values from the registry that symantec recommended in order to get rid of the worm. However it didnt get rid of it...?

Spybot closes regedit, msconfig, taskmgr & netstat as soon as you open them.

Use Stinger to remove the worm first click here

i have just run stinger but it didnt remove the w32.spybot.worm

not sure what steps to take now as i still cant enter regedit.... :0(

What happened with Stinger?

Boot into Safe Mode and then either try Regiedit (does it work in Safe Mode) or Stinger again.
