Trouble downloading from sites

I am using windows XP home and Internet explorer 7 on a Medion Desk top. I can log on OK and go to google sites but when I try and view links from these it is taking ages to download a page, ran broadband speed checker and get 877kps download .
It was allok until a couple of days ago. Have restored system with no improvement, have run CC Cleaner but still bad. Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried another Browser - ie: Mozilla Firefox and is it still the same?

Have used Mozilla firefox and at first it seemed quicker, but it seems when I go to links it goes really slow or says there is a problem try again. an example of this was I was looking for 12 litre Diving cylinders on ebay and it could not locate the exact description and offered a variety of choices, when I selected one of these was taking 3 mins not to download page.

Try unplugging all other devices on your line eg phone / answering machine set top box ect.

Does this sort out speed one of the filters may have failed.
