Transfer of Files and Settings to a new PC

  bloggs52 14:52 25 Nov 2008

I am replacing my PC (Windows XP) to a new one with Windows Vista. Can I use a files and settings transfer wizard to transfer files and settings? If not, how do I do it ?
Grateful for any advice.

Windows Easy Transfer is the Vista version. It does work and here's the Microsoft link.

I've just done this from XP to Vista. Used 2 CDs rather than the network (which I tried first, but was VERY slow). Worked a treat.

Yes, I wouldn't recommend using a wireless network for this. USB pen is also easy.

I agree.

If you use Easy Transfer you'll have to buy an Easy Transfer Cable, which you'll use once. Much better to spend your money on a USB memory stick that will give you plenty of use afterwards.

Damn - didn't think of using a stick!

Windows Easy Transfer can use memory sticks, network or cd. IT can also use a cable that Microsoft will sell you, but it isn't necessary. It's much the same as XP Files and Settings Transfer
