Hi, I am thinking of replacing my aging HDD to a new larger HDD. Is there a way of trasfering all data and the OS as it is to a new HDD without installing the OS on the HDD first. All good and valid suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Norton Ghost, Drive Copy & Partition Magic will all do what you want. There are also free utilities that might do. For more info:

Some HDD manufactures supply software to copy the old drive onto the new drive
Seagate use DiscWizard fo Windows
Maxtor use Maxblast click here

Seagate and Maxtor are now one company.
