Total computer freeze, totally unresponsive.

Hi there,

I just started using my computer again after a hiatus of about 2 years+. I keep getting complete freezes, usually while playing games but at other points as well, Sound stops, screen freezes. Does not unfreeze untill I restart the computer.

I got a new SSD hard drive and downloaded windows 10 and updated all the drivers, thinking that would fix the problem. Alas I was mistaken! I was told that processor problems are really rare but now i'm worried this is the problem.

Here is a list of my relevant hardware.

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. ga 880gm usb3 motherboard

SanDisk SDSSHD2128G WDC WDC5000AAKX-001CAO ATA Device (plugged in but not in use)

AMD FX 4100 Quad-Core Processor

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Thanks for the help!

Quick check that it's not overheating

The case next to the processor is warm to the touch but i wouldn't say hot.

I've seen the inside of a case that was sparkling clean. Unfortunately, he hadn't taken the shell off his Graphics Card. When we lifted it away there was so much dust between the fins of the heat exchanger that there can have been no airflow at all

OK i'll try that next. Thanks for the help. Do you think this is the most cause of the issue?

I have no idea. But it costs nothing to check

While you're in there, check out the airflow over the CPU's heat exchanger

Will do, Cheers
