Toshiba Laptop Boot-up problem

  Honorary Aussie 16:56 05 May 2010

My 3 year old Toshiba A200 laptop frequently fails to boot up. It switches on initially and begins the boot-up routine but then gets stuck with just the moving bar symbol at the bottom of the screen showing. The hard disk lamp on the PC either goes out completely or stays solid, it doesn't blink. I then have to switch off and restart - usually this works. It's becoming more frequent, however.

Any clues as to how I can stop this happening?

Presumably you have the problem whether on battery or with the mains lead plugged in?

It sounds like a failing hard drive. Make sure any important files are backed up to separate media and consider having the drive replaced.
