torrents and viruses

i have just downloaded bitcomet and was looking for some advice on how to keep my system clean while downloading media ??? is there any sort of virus scanner that scans files for spyware ,adware trojens or any other nastys that can have an effect on your pc before you have downloaded the file, i currenty have mccaffe internet security centre 2007

Are you saying that you have no antivirus protection!?
AVG antivirus is a good free av program and should do the job well.

He has McAfee Security Centre, that includes av.

Sharing files P2P with unknown users will never be safe. Ive never had a problem myself but Im not big on d/loading. Most of the people I help elsewhere tend to be P2P users.

Whoops didn't read through properly. Most av programs should be able to scan the downloaded file but I know of no program that will scan before starting a download. As Mac70 say's, downloading from p2p can be risky, also it is illegal to download copyright material, but I guess you already know that.
