Tiscali Securemail - Any good?

  Border View 09:56 18 Aug 2003

Receipt of filthy spam has taken off lately. Trying to find a solution I see that Tiscali are offering Securemail for £4.99 (introductory offer) per annum.

Has anyone used this service? Is it any good? Would be grateful for your comments before I sign up. Oh! my ISP has been Lineone/Tiscali for about three years.

Most of the Pr0n mail and spam that arrives chez moi, comes from Tiscali...I smell a business opportunity seeded by them ;-))....and I can't get to the securemail site (cannot find server etc,).

Thank you for responding. That was my gut feeling too. I feel that ISPs should be filtering e-mails for spam and porn as a matter of course. Shall wait a little while. Again thank you.

Thanks for the link. It seems that Tiscali will use Brightmail anti-spam technology. You can read about it here:

Quote: "Brightmail does not sell its services directly to individuals, you can gain protection and control of your email by signing up with one of many ISPs that subscribe to Brightmail Anti-Spam and Brightmail Anti-Virus".

Thanks for that. I've taken the plunge and signed up at £4.99 for the first year it must be worth it, even if it only stops 75%. I was receiving about 200 spam a week.

I did have mailwasher installed, and although I could view e-mail headers before downloading them to my computer it still meant reading through the subject heading to vet and delete. Using Tiscali Secure Mail meant I had to uninstal Mailwasher.

I shall repost in about two weeks to let you know how Secure Mail turns out.

Hello Barmoor

Like you I have in the last few days been receiving lots and lots of spam, much of it infected with the SoBig virus. Norton has stopped the virus, but it has become impossible.

I too have today signed up with Tiscali secure mail, and will report back with the results.
