Tips for disable onboard graphics

  aca 08:53 05 Mar 2005

Installing FX5600 on friends PC. PC has SiS650 on board graphics. Motherboard is Gigabyte 8SiML. Running XP.

Looking in board manual only setting in Bios is to set to PCI or AGP. Currently set to AGP.

Am I right in thinking I should leave this setting and new card will be autodetected and onboard disabled via bios. If yes is order below ok:

Physically install new AGP card
Install drivers
Disable Onboard in Device Manager
Restart pc

From the Gigabyte manual:

Question 8: How do I disable onboard VGA card in order to add an external VGA card?

Answer: Gigabyte motherboards will auto-detect the external VGA card after it is plugged in, so you don't need to change any setting manually to disable the onboard VGA.
