Timing for format+partiton ext.HDD

  lenc 19:38 13 Mar 2007

To give me a senssible expectation, can someone supply reasonable timings for a 7200 rpm, USB 2 external disc to:
1. format (from Fat32) as NTFS
2. create 3 equal-ish partitons (100-150 GB each)

I intend to use Win XP utilities (compmgmt.msc) unless someone tells me that my Seagate utilities are faster or more reliable.

Setting up the partitions with the XP Wizard is very quick and easy. The time taken to format depends on the speed of your connection (USB 1 or 2) and how big the partitions are. I did a 250GB drive in about 45 minutes from start to finish - no partitions. I deleted and formatted NTFS only.
