is there any reason to use a modem & modem router?

hi, a friend has been having trouble setting up a 2nd pc for internet access. they have access at the mo through a sagem modem on tiscali. some bod at pc world told them they needed a d-link wireless router/modem. the thing is they've been trying to just add this router to the usual setup. in other words: they have one comp wired to the sagem usb modem through one phone socket and they're trying to get the other pc wired to the router from another phone socket. is this at all necessary??

No.

They can store the tiscali modem away.

1) disconnect the old modem

2) install drivers for new WiFi modem

3) wireup the WiFi modem router

4) inset d-link disk

5) start setup wizard

6) input tiscali PPPoA ( 0-38 ) i think

7) input username and password

8) finish and connect to internet.
