Is there an alternative to Microsoft Publisher

Is there an alternative to Microsoft Publisher?

I am particularly looking for free software, similar to Open Office and Foxit reader, that is able to save in various formats and is compatible with existing files saved in Publisher format.

Though the many manifestions of MS Word is comprehensive enough for many 'page making' situations.

I am fairly sure that Serif PagePlus cannot open Publisher files. It can open pdf and you can export Publisher in this format with the 2007 version.

There is a free desktop publishing program, it's Serif PagePlus click here the problem is that both Publisher and PagePlus use proprietary file formats and are incompatible. I don't think there is anything else that will touch Publisher files. Microsoft don't do a free Publisher viewer and their advice to anybody wanting to read one is download a trial of Publisher. click here
