tempremental start up

my pc has just started to play up for no apparent reason using win xp home sp2(been installed for ages with n problems)i have an athlon 2600+ on a msi kt4v mother board with 512mb of ram and a seagate barracudu 80gb hdd.the problem is only within the last week.when i turn it on it hangs on the main bios boot up screen,and i have to keep turning it on and off several times to get it to start properly.i have tested the hdd with seagates diag tools and it shows no problems is it a motherboard fault?any help gladly accepted before i look for new mb
