I get this message at the start of the XP boot up - " windows root>\system32\hal.dll please re-install a copy of the above" - how would I, firstly, find this file and secondly install it onto a seemingly dead drive which will not talk to me.Any help much appreciated
click here may help.I have also fixed this by booting with the XP cd and going into the recovery console then rrunning the commndsbootcfg fixbootclick here;en-us;Q314058 but it doesnt always work.
Are you running a ual boot?

Yes it is a dual boot, off two hard drives primary being 12GB slave 3.2GB.
