System shutdown initiated by NT authority/system

  Bad Dad 16:59 22 Nov 2003

If I try to write an e-mail when on line up pops a window saying "The system in shuting down...blah, blah. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Then -
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly

Very alarming and annoying when it happens - gives you a minute or so to save work then it reboots the computer.

Any ideas? Just installed new version of McAfee and Download Accelerator Plus but is this coincidence.

Any assistance or advice greatly appreciated.

First Start, Run and type

shutdown -a

and click OK. This will give you more time.

Next, get the MS Patch. Without it you'll be reinfected every time you connect: click here

Then run either Stinger click here or the Norton removal tool click here

I certainly was tangoed. Feel very embarassed. Thanks to all VERY much indeed. Stinger also found Lovsan.worm whatever that was. It's well and trully dead. An internet connection wasn't firewalled - oops.

Thanks again.
