System Restore problem?

  Black Strider 21:01 24 Dec 2006

I'm having a few niggles with my system and wanted to do a system restore.
The trouble is is that System Restore refuses to go back to a past date.
The only darkend square available is the present day. Clicking a past month does not work.
What is to be done?

Do not rely on System Restore. I have known it fail numerous times such that I don't bother with it any more. I have more than 20 computers and I haven't a clue whether SR works or not in any of them.

See my post about backups - much more reliable.

Thank you to both of you.
I'll try and have a go later.
In the mean time, i wish you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Hiya! Hope you had a good Christmas?
Well, It's woking but i still can only go back to 24Dec.
System restore is also monitoring drive J whatever that is, but no memory is allocated to that drive or can be allocated to it.

It may be a differant problem, but, my outlook express knocks out my internet connection every time i first use it after logging on!

A system file scan should correct both problems, although if there are no restore points pre 24th Dec it will not resore to an earlier date.
To do a system file scan, go to Start/Run/type sfc /scannow (Watch the space between sfc and /) hit enter. You will need your XP CD
