system locks up with usb 2.0 card.

i am running win98 not win98se.
i have installed a usb 2.0 card into a pci slot,on boot up the memory miscounts,and the sytem locks up.
when i take the card out the sytem boots ok.
i am wonderin if it is a compatability problem with win98.
does it have to be compatible with win98 s.e.

No. Only Windows 98se (second edition), Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP support USB2.

The problem isn't with windows, windows hasn't even started to load while the RAM count is going through.

It could be a dodgy card, a fault with the PCI slot or a conflict with another card, try swapping cards around.

I would also suggest checking with your motherboard manufacturer to see if there are any relevent BIOS upgrades.

This site suggest that USB 2 with correct drivers will work with win 98. click here j.
