System Hardware Abnormal Error Message on Start Up

This is a really weird thing that has started happening on my mum's pc.

When you switch it on at the first screen - before it starts counting the RAM - it stops, beeps 4 times (I think 4 anyhow) and then displays the following message in red text:-

System Hardware Abnormal - Press any key to continue.

When you then press a key the pc starts as normal.
I can not see anything else wrong with the PC and everything seems to be working ok.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

It sound like faulty memory

I was thinking of suggesting she upgraded the RAM anyhow (it is a P2 233 with 256K of RAM) so I will try it with a new stick and see if that helps.

Cheers
