neighbours pc,OS is XP Home, the boot sector was fixed last week and now this. After approx. 5mins on-line it completely hangs up. When you try to access task manager, all you get is the wee icon on the bottom rhs of the screen, nothing on the desktop. He got this error svchost.exe was the heading for the grey box then the following text inside the box, The instruction at "0x77bd3143" referenced memory at "0x77bd3143". The memory could not be read. He was also getting other alerts (in the grey boxes), so i turned of the messenger services, and no more alerts. Could the svchost error, have been a false alarm as this hasn't come since switching off the messenger services. Scans haven't shown any virus present, any suggestions !!
took out the h/drive and put into my p.c., norton found a worm which was causing the probs. However now when every you ctrl-alt-del the task manager icon goes to the bottom rhs of the taskbar and doesn't appear in a window like it should. Even you right click or even double click over it, nothing happens ???
Any suggestions welcomed
