We have a Toshiba laptop running XP Professional with the following error on start up:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMUnfortunately we only have a recovery disk, not the original XP Disk. The machine will not even start in safe mode.Any ideas how we can overcome this problem? Thanks,Terry
You should be able to boot and repair using the recovery disc, have you tried?
rawprawn, the recovery disk wants to format and re-install, if possible I'd like to try and save the data...Well, that said.... The recovery disk gives me two options:a) format and re-install, orb) an 'advanced' optionI've never used the advanced option and as I say, I'm a little nervous about losing any data on the drive..Thanks,Terry
You will need to borrow a Windows CD (not an OEM one). click here
Thanks VoG, that's it... just need to get hold of a Windows CD now :-)Thanks again,Terry
