System 32 and computer startup

Good morning, I could do with some help please. When I boot up my computer instead of getting a normal blank screen I now get a blank screen with an open folder on it. The folder is titled "System 32" and the address bar has "C:/windows/system32" in it. When I run "msconfig" I can find no record of this. I have run "sfc /scannow" and everything is O.K. I then delete this folder by clicking on the cross at the top right hand corner of the folder, My computer works normally except for this one fault. I run XP Pro SP2. Thank you for your time - Ian
