switch off hardware

hello..in the past when i have connected for example memory sticks ,there was an icon on the desktop tool bar which would allow you to switch the device off before you unplug.the icon would list all hardware.it has now disappeared.any ideas.many thanks,mike

safely remove hardware icon may be hidden, click on the arrow in the ssystem tray to rval hidden icons.

Hi all and many thanks for your help.Problem solved,how????.I paid a visit to Microsofts forum and found this useful thread.It helped me,it may help others as well....Once again thanks,regards,mike

Right-click the Start button, select Properties, Taskbar tab,
Customize... button. Find the Safely Remove Hardware icon and select
either Hide when inactive, Always show, but not Always hide.
