Swapping 2.5" HDD for larger model

I have an 80Gb HDD in my laptop - I was wondering if I changed it for a 160Gb version, that I could use the image of the 80Gb version on the 160Gb version? Would Acronis True Image be able to do it?

Yes make a clone of the drive with acronis to the new drive. Then just swap drives.

Yes no probs

Can I clone the new drive in an external USB HDD enclosure?

  woodchip 19:47 02 Jan 2010

yes i have done it but i used acronis image to do it

Yes clone from old drive to new drive direct, using Acronis Clone - just follow all the defaults, no need to make any changes within Acronis. Then just change the drives over as already said above.

So, I clone to new HDD in external drive, then simply and physically swap the drives around, putting the newly cloned one into my laptop?

  Technotiger 20:32 02 Jan 2010

Yes - exactly.

Having done that, you will not notice any difference, except when you look at the Drives capacity in My Computer.

"Easy-peasy lemon-squeezy" so to speak...! :)
Thanks for the insight.

Will it work by taking an Acronis image of the small sized drive, and restoring it to the large sized drive, or must you use Acronis clone?
Thanks David
