svchost.exe - Application Error

  williamj 14:53 30 Apr 2005

I get the above error occasionally (not always) when shutting down Windows XP.
Details: The instruction "Ox774e2Obb" reference memory at Ox13cb26b1. The memory could not be written.
Click OK to terminate program
Click Cancel to debug
Refering to Error Log the following is recerded.
The OMSCAN service failed due to: The system cannot find the file specified.
Any ideas on what file is missing?
My Windows XP is fully up to date.

If it's being caused by a missing or incorrect ssytem file, which may or may not have anything to do with it, then enter sfc /scannow into the Run command box.

To check your RAM for faults, run Memtest 86, which is (I think) in the Downloads section of this very site.

For some very useful info on sfc and why it can sometimes play up, read this click here
