suddenly AVG won't update

  palinka 19:27 03 Jun 2005

Have used AVG for yonks; no problems; set to update itself; etc; but I do look for updates "manually" from time to time and this evening when I double clicked the icon I received this message - "Could not initialise AVG kernel interface. Application cannot run". Any one else had this problem? Anyone got a solution? I could always download a new copy, but if someone has another solution I'd be glad to hear it.(maybe this is the problem referred to in click here).

Just updated my laptop (Win XP) without problems, but still no joy with my desktop (Win ME).

You could try repairing AVG. Using Explorer navigate to Program Files > Grisoft > AVG Free, double click setup.exe. Go through the procedure, it seems like you are reinstalling AVG and you get to a point where you are asked if you want to repair AVG amongst other options.

This sorted a problem out for me.

thanks to both of you. I'll try Dipso's method first.

If its the free version, why not pop over to the website and download the latest build

Save it somewhere and disconnect from internet.

Uninstall old, restart, install new.

You can do this with the professional version if you have the serial numbers.
