Strange error message on screen

First of all must apologise for the length of this message. Just been to Tescos and left my laptop on as was only going to be about 15 mins when I got back the following message was on the screen in a blue background. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. SYSTEMSERVICEEXCEPTION If this is the first time you have seen this error screen restart your computer.If this screen appears again follow these steps. Check to make sure any new hardware/software is properly installed. If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware/software disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing.I have not installed any new hardware/software since I bought this laptop.I did get this screen before but a long time ago maybe last summer.My OS is windows 7 can someone try and explain what this screen means.Thank's

you need to make sure that all the windows updates have been installed before trying anything else.

Ponytail: that's no strange message - that's the Blue Screen Of Death (aka BSOD) that Windows users have become used to over time. The potential causes are many, and include both hardware and software. It basically means that Windows has encountered some sort of 'fatal' problem/error from which it can't recover, which means it shuts down.

Sometimes, it's a temporary glitsch. As you say, you've seen it once before. Were you able to restart your laptop without problem?
