stop 0x0000008E message when network cable unplugs

  angel290385 16:00 05 Sep 2005

Im using AOL. Since I got broadband the connection has been weird, every now and then the network cable unplugs and then establishes itself again. Recently when the 'network cable unplugged' bubble pops up the computer will crash and then i get the 0x0000008E message

details: 0xc0000005, oxf787d2cc, 0xf89oa99c, ox0000000) Mpfirewall.sys F787d2cc F787b000 3dfoco71.

This happends frequently and i have to restart about every 15 mins. Can anyone help?

Im really dont know a lot about computers and dont understand technical jargon.

mpfirewall.sys is associated with Mcafee products so I'm guessing you Mcafee internet Security installed?

This, however could also be a problem with your network card.

I would suggest re-installing Mcafee and your network card drivers - Do you know how to do this?

If not post back and we'll let you know!

Yes I have Mcafee. I don't know what a network card driver is or how to re-install one!?

Would i have to remove Mcafee and then add it again?

I really am clueless!

Thanks for the quick reply.

This may be a firewall problem.

If you are using Windows XP disable the firewall after downloading Zonealarm, click here for a free download.

To disable the Windows Firewall open Control Panel, then Widnows Firewall and select the Off option on the General tab.

Well i downloaded Zone Alarm (i used this before but becuase of the problems with the connection aol told me to remove it & i got Mcafee)

Computer has been on for an hour now and no problems but the network cable still unplugs every 5 minutes or so. Ive contacted aol about this but they dont seem to be able to do anything. Any one know what the problem is?

Do you have more than one firewall currently on your computer? If you do that is probably the problem, you mention the Mcafee firewall and you say you've downloaded Zone Alarm and theres also XPs own firewall. That makes three, could you check that two of the firewalls are disabled and only one of them is working.

I thought that too many of these things might conflict with one another and cause problems. I removed Mcafee completely and windows firewall is disabled. Is this all i need to do?

still keep getting network cable unplugged errors?

  BBez 20:56 05 Sep 2005

try scanning for virii, may be a virus causing the disconnects, if the NIC drivers are OK, the Network Card itself may be faulty, also ensure power saving is disabled for NIC...

  BBez 20:59 05 Sep 2005

right-click "my computer" icon, select "properties" then "hardware" tab then select "device manager", scroll down to the network adapters, then righ-click the adapter and select "update driver" which should reinstall the driver for you...

Yes i keep getting the unplugged messages.

I just tried to do what you said BBez but it came up with a message saying 'The wizzard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you have installed.'

Bitdefender scans every day, ive just done one and there seem to be lots of I/0 errors whatever they are and seems to be coming up with the same cant disinfect or remove a virus:
