The only 'status' program I am aware of is, the Epson Printer Status Monitor - for checking ink cartridges and condition.

But after looking on Google - click here does your friend have a Card Reader?

the program is just called status and even though you try to cancel it, it just keeps coming back demanding that you insert the status disk.

I cant see anything to do with a card reader on his laptop.

Hmm, in that case I would advise running click here which may clear any glitch in the registry.

Your friend could also run click here just to be on the safe side.

Does, or has, your friend at any time used Supanet as an ISP? If so they have software called status which loads at startup.

I have no experience of Norton, have never used it, but I have heard the same as you about Norton giving some problems - so I guess that is a possibility.
