start up problem

Hi all
I recently re-installed windows due to clean out my system. It now has decided to take ages starting up! Windows begins fine, but when it loads the background image of my user window, the task bar which should run along the bottom is several minutes behind. I can CTRL+ALT+DEL and it brings up the program manager no worries.
Any ideas??

When you reloaded xp was the pc connected to the net before ant protective sw like AV or zonealarm were installed, if yes, then a nasty may have dloaded itself onto your system. Try a scan (for both virus and malware) to see if anything comes up, make sure that the av + as sw you use is up to date first.

Also, you could take a look at this site, click here, it lists start-up progs, including malware that installs itself into your startup.
