Start up options

I want to stop certain items from starting on 'start-up'
How do I do it on XP please?

Start Menu, run..., type MSCONFIG and hit enter, goto the Startup tab and uncheck anything you don't want to run.

start, then run and type msconfig

click the startup tab and uncheck what you will. click ok

in "run" type:
then select the startup tab and deselect any items you do not want to run on startup. Beware, do not deselect items unless you are absolutely sure of what they are. There are several web sites that will help you identify them.

Untick items from the "Startup" tab in MSCONFIG ("Start > Run", type MSCONFIG and click OK)


Delete shortcuts from the Startup folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

click here is a fantastic utility that you can remove startup items with aswell as clear old junk files.
