What is the application you're trying to use to open the file on the laptop? I don't know Vista. Does it have some other means of viewing spreadsheets?

You need Excel on your Vista machine, or the Excel reader click here

Or are you trying to open Excel files in Works Spreadsheet?

Is Excel actually installed on Vista?

Either install Excel onto the Vista laptop OR install OpenOffice onto the laptop and use that to view and edit excel spreadsheets.

Right-click on Excel spreadsheet in Windows Explorer and select Open With - Choose Program - Browse to the location of Excel or Openoffice program and make sure box is ticked for "Always open this program to open these files"
