Speed - what's going on?

  oldbeefer2 09:57 03 Jan 2010

I live 6km from local exchange in rural Shropshire. Until recently, Speedtest.net gave my download as 2.5 to 3.5 Mb/s. Now I routinely get over 5Mb/s using the same speed test site. Anyone give me an explanation, please (ISP is Vispa)? Thanks.

Sounds like they upgraded your exchange!

Andsome - I am certainly not complaining! Was just wondering if the ISP had done something. Madboy - Just hope it lasts!

Shrewsbury exchange?
My speed hasn't changed :(

Paperplane - no, Baschurch and, as mentioned, a long run of copper to my village.

You can't beat cable if it's vailable. I pay for 10MB and NEVER get less than 9.8.

Bully for you but are the increases accompanied by the equivalent increases in the DS Trained Rates in your router stats.I recently had readings of 10,15,and even 45 on a 8Mbt contract using Speedtest.net.The DS rate was 7200.I believe that anti virus programs can sometimes interfer.

Thanks Poitier - i'll check it out.
