Sound distortion when playing DVDs

  oberon 09:46 03 Jan 2007

Continuing with problems since upgrading my sons computer. All seems to work well but when he plays a DVD from the DVD drive (where else) the sound is breaking up. If the displayed video is minimised the sound distortion goes away.
System is an ASUS A8V-VM M/bd, ASUS X550, 512Mb graphics card, AMD 64 +3500 processor, 512Mb Ram, Soundblaster 5.1 Live! sound card and a Liteon DVD drive.
No conflicts are noted in device manager.

Any ideas anyone.

If no joy from the above suggestion, you may have missing or broken codecs.

Many thanks guys. Tried running the setup files again but to no avail so I downloaded K-Lite codec pack, all that managed to do was to totally wipe out the sound card, the system couldn't even see it. Tried changing around settings but still have the sam eproblem. Eventually did a system restore so now back to where I was at the start.
It really is strange because the sound is working ok from cd and dvd as long as no moving images are being displayed. Think I may just get another sound card for him and see what happens, but any further suggestions are greatfully appreciated.
