Sound distorted

3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4 Extreme CPU with 1Mb cache

XFX GeForce 5900XT AGP8x 128Mb Graphics card
Floppy Drive
Liteon 16x DVD+/- RW dual layer DVD+
LG internal x16 DVD drive
Power DVD V4 software
Logitrech cordless desktop LX501
Creative inspire GD 580 5.1 speaker system
CTX S721 17" TFT monitor with Sound.
Running MS Windows XP Home OEM.

Souns distorted when i play a cd and in itunes etc. I have looked at the MS help and follwed what it said, but it was no help.I am at a loss to know what to do next.

Have you checked the configuration in Sounds and Audio Devices from Control Panel? You may need, as well, to disable the monitor sound.

Also, in Windows Media Player, from Tools>Options>Devices>highlight your drive(s)>Properties>Audio tab and tick Digital Playback.
