Windows always put generic drivers for sound cards and modems. Most of the time they will not work.

Go to control panel > system > hardware > device manager. You will probably find one or more yellow exclamation marks listed to the left of device references. Highlight them and delete them.

Reboot and put your sound card driver in your cdrom and install the drivers. This should get you going.

Find out the make and model of the sound card and download driver from their website.

Go to this link and install and run the programme and it will tell you what your sound card is so you can search for the drivers and download them to your desktop, then go to device manager click on the sound card click update drivers and point it to the drivers you downloaded.

Alann227 which link do i go too

Click [Start] >run >type dxdiag you are now on the direct X diagnosis page. Click on the sound tab on the top of the page, it should tell you what card is installed. Get the latest drivers for that card and install them. Uninstall any old drivers on your your machine first

N.B. sometimes it is necessary to install direct X after the sound card driver has been installed. So if you have a game with direct X on the install program, install it after installing the card driver. Or visit Microsoft click here the reinstall directx.

I think thegreatone is suggesting you go out and buy a copy of windows X\P, just to get your sound card working.

You will have to find the make and model of your sound card. Download everest home edition from here.
Look under computer > summary > multimedia on the everest main page. This should give you the make and model of your sound card. Either look for the drivers on the web or post back here and someone will retrieve them for you.

You can then do what I suggested on Fri. @7.32

Do you have question marks or exclamation marks against your drivers in device manager. If you have then that driver is the problem

I dont think that it is really neccessary to buy XP to get a driver

You will need to have the correct driver.

Remove the problem driver, reboot and Windows ME will offer to find the best driver, some times this driver will suffice as it find a windows generic driver.

In your case you should direct it to the specific driver you want to install.

Note it will not look for new drivers unless you remove existing and reboot
