Sound Card for Laptops

Which sound card is the best for laptops? I would like to upgrade my AC'97 sound system to something better.

Ordinary sound cards that work with desktop computers won't work with laptops, right?

So which sound card would you recommend to be installed in a laptop?

As far as I know, Not Possible

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it. Just want to beef up my sound quality. :)

I think you can get pcmcia sound cards for a laptop - probably expensive.

or buy yourself an external usb soundcard, the soundblaster extigy is great, but the ac'97 sound is o.k. just get yourself some better speakers maybe a 2.1 setup with a subwoofer, notebook soundcards are not upgradable unfortunatly and ive not seen a pcmcia card for it but if there is one then as ton said it is probably pretty expensive.

Thanks all of you. Well, actually I was thinking of getting a sound card that is well supported by Linux. I get a distinct crackling when playing sound on SuSE 8.2 Linux.
