Sound card

Hi everyone.
l have just installed a talk and type software on my pc. having done that and on trying to us it it wants to sample my voice, it comes back saying poor sound quality, so l am going through what l have installed on the pc, on checking the sound card l get told this is it=

Audio Adapter Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0]

can some one please explain to me what this is, and please remember you talking to a novice many thanks in advance.

This looks like an onboard sound system.

It is fitted on your motherboard.

You may need to update the drivers for this , what operating system are you using?

Something to look at in the meantime, Sound setup

My O/S is windows XP.
l dont know if its fitted to the motherboard, but if it is can l still fit a better sound card, l think the graphics card will be the same.

yes you can fit another sound card. Please make sure you turn off the onboard sound though (should be in integrated peripherals in your bios).

You won't find better than this at this price.
