Sound Anomally & No Sound

  johndrew 15:04 04 Aug 2006

Today I have noted that for no apparent reason I had no sound on boot up.

I checked the volume control and found it right at the top (low volume) I turned it up to no effect. I opened the Master volume and found that at low volume, again I turned it up to no effect.

I opened Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and found the volume fully low. As I moved it up I noted the volume master control move toward low volume.

I have checked Device Manager and can see no warnings. My sound is integrated on the motherboard (Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe) and my speakers are plugged into the connector.

I am running XP Pro SP2.

Am I missing something here?

Any help welcome. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for coming back people.

This gets wierder even though I somehow fixed it (or it fixed itself).

What I did:

Restart - no effect.
Restore - problem solved, checked settings
Undo Restore - sound is back, checked settings same as before.
Checked `Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices` and opened volume master control both sliders now move the right way!!!!

I think this PC is haunted!!

Fruit Bat /\0/\ I like your link; bookmarked.

Anyway until the next time, thanks for your help.
